Check-In Questions for Effective Communication

Sometimes, we think we’re communicating well with our partners, and that can make us complacent. The truth is, we could always do better. Perhaps we don’t set aside enough time to listen or be attentive to our partner’s needs.

We might even fall into harmful patterns of mind-reading:

“He should know I’ve had a stressful day at work and I’m too tired to clean up his mess”.

Or assumption-making:

Check-In Questions for Managing Relationship Conflict

Unless you and your partner are carbon copies and genuinely agree on everything, conflicts are bound to arise in any relationship.

While disagreements themselves do not indicate a major problem, it’s important to manage and resolve those conflicts in constructive ways so they don’t escalate into damaging arguments.
